What is Malware?
Malware is any software that harms a computer, phone or network: viruses, trojans, spyware and ransomware. It most often spreads through email attachments, dangerous links and unofficial downloads.
Modern malware works quietly: it steals passwords, watches correspondence or waits for instructions. "The computer works fine" does not mean it is clean.
How to spot it
- A document asking you to click "Enable Content"
- A file with a double extension such as invoice.pdf.exe
- Odd pop-ups or sudden slowness
What to do
- Install software only from official sources
- Apply updates promptly
- If in doubt, disconnect from the network and call IT
