What is Password manager?
A password manager is software that stores all your passwords encrypted and generates a long, unique password for every account. You only remember one master password, which should be protected with 2FA.
Reusing one password across sites is the most dangerous habit: one site's breach unlocks every account. A browser's built-in manager beats nothing, but a dedicated manager adds better sharing and control.
How to spot it
- The same password on several accounts
- Passwords on paper or in a spreadsheet
What to do
- Use the password manager your company approves
- Master password: a long passphrase plus 2FA
